Tourism Snowy Mountains engaged us to create a website that highlights the region as a year-round destination. While renowned for skiing and snowboarding, few are aware that it offers just as much in warmer months—hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing, and more. The challenge was to shift this perception while making trip planning easy. By introducing a seasonal toggle, we enticed users to switch between summer and winter views to discover new activities.

The site includes real-time weather updates, a ‘Where to Stay' section, and blog content covering everything from top locations to first-time visitor tips. Users can bookmark favourites to build and share itineraries. The site also integrates with the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW), the national platform for digital tourism data. This allows individual business and event operators to update their information once on the ATDW platform and for these changes to be reflected immediately on the Snowy Mountains website, with the added benefit of reducing the administration and management of the site's content from the Tourism Snowy Mountains team.

Background

Headjam had the privilege of collaborating with Tourism Snowy Mountains to reimagine their digital presence and develop a website that reflects the region’s unparalleled beauty, adventurous spirit, and all-season appeal. This project focused on elevating the Snowy Mountains’ brand through innovative design, immersive storytelling, and seamless functionality.

Spanning over 3,500 square kilometres, the Snowy Mountains is one of Australia’s most iconic regions, defined by its rugged mountain ranges, glacial lakes, snow-capped peaks, and alpine meadows. It’s best known as a premier winter destination for skiers and snowboarders, but there are also hidden treasures in the warmer months—hiking, mountain biking, horse-riding, and fishing.

Creative Solution

We wanted to highlight the Snowy Mountains’ all-year-round potential by showcasing the Snowy Mountains’ dual seasonal charm and inspire visitors with a seamless year-round experience. A key feature of the website is its seasonal toggle, which dynamically switches between summer and winter modes, helping visitors plan activities based on the time of year while exploring everything the region has to offer.

The design emphasises stunning, high-impact visuals to immerse users in the dramatic landscapes and diverse experiences of the Snowy Mountains. To complement this, we created an intuitive user interface supported by wireframes and a robust ATDW integration. This ensures real-time updates on local businesses, events, and attractions, allowing users to easily filter activities, accommodations, and itineraries. The platform features blog content ranging from practical snow preparation guides to tips for exploring summer activities, serving as a helpful resource for travelers year-round. An “Explore” feature invites users to discover all corners of the Snowy Mountains, from Thredbo and Perisher to hidden alpine gems. Through careful design and development, the website reflects the Snowy Mountains’ adventurous spirit and connection to nature.

Our collaboration with Tourism Snowy Mountains has created a platform that encourages year-round visits and invites travellers to experience the region’s charm in every season.
