What is a website?
A website is a collection of files located on another computer called a server. This server computer makes this collection of files available on the internet for anyone to view. However, to edit these pages you need a password.
Generally speaking, you will be visiting websites using a "browser".
What does a website need?
A website needs three things to function.
- A domain name
- A web host
- Content
It is perhaps easiest to compare each of these components to their equivalents in the 'real world'.
A domain name is the address.
A web host is the physical plot of land that people will find if they follow the address.
Content is the building on that plot of land.
