What is a CMS or CRM?

What is a Content Management System (CMS)?

A Content Management System (CMS) is a program that allows publishing, editing and modifying of content. It also provides extended functionality that you would not get in a static website – for instance, an E-Commerce site using a CMS can allow a user to create an account, select and pay for your products and provide a shipping address. The CMS can then automatically place the order in the administrator section for your review.

CMSs are generally installed on the web server – not on your computer. This means that you can access and update your website from any computer with an internet connection – you don't need to be restricted to one computer.

What is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system?

A Customer Relationship Management system is a program that allows you to monitor your users and their interaction with your business. A CRM can be integrated with:

  • Sales or E-Commerce systems to track sales and deliveries, as well as monitor leads and opportunities
  • Marketing campaigns to monitor their success
  • Customer Service / Case Management systems to ensure customer enquiries are captured and acted upon
  • Manage tasks and appointments
